Did they ever get this fixed? I tried it a few months back and the videos would constantly restart. I heard Roku had blocked Playon from working properly. Are those issues fixed now?

They've pushed 11 upgrades this year and the local media streaming has moved out of Beta. The product currently is rock solid. I ran it for months on a core 2 duo 2ghz machine without a hitch. I currently run it in the background of my Family's relatively cheap ($650) i7 desktop machine. I can pull multiple streams from multiple Rokus without a problem.

this y0himba user must be a stooge of the RIAA Or motion picture association."Stay away from this and go with a solution that is legal and also reliable" exactly the words a DCMA Agent would cough up from his brainless body. When you paying 100 dollars or more from monopoly fused cable companies or mindless entertainment content, you have every right to use media server apps such as these. As for y0himba-tell the RIAA,MPAA AND DCMA,when they stop to stealing copyrighted material themselves(most US TV content and movies are simply rip-offs of great worldwide media content and they know this)then we as end users will adhere to paying or getting our entertianment needs from reliable sources.

no, roku works just fine without playon. Roku is set up to stream many channels but there are some that it can't right now - like ESPN.

Playon works fine, however you need a more powerful computer than something you buy from Wal-mart. For best results you probably want at least a duel core, and 4GB+ of DDR 3 RAM. So I recommend you try it before you buy it to see if your computer and Internet can handle it.

The watch TV anywhere with the Android app is a nice feature of playon as well, but you always have to have your computer running to do so.

Call us when this "new legislation" passes.

If you are watching channels that stream pirated info you might be right about the frequency of required updates, but there are quite a bunch of streaming content that it legal and playon allows me to get that content to my dlna client.

Again, contact us with specifics when the mythical legislation passes. Whether I hook my computer straight to the TV or use playon to take the same info that is already in my house and send it to my TV for my personal use makes no difference. Currently this is legal.

Stay away from this and go with a solution that is legal and also reliable. it is far easier to hook a computer to your set or entertainment system than to install and run PlayOn, and keep it running. PlayOn is making money off the content of others, without permission, and charging you for it.

The playon server is part of playon basic which is free and the "My Media" component to stream media is also free with playon basic. If your PC is ancient then nothing will stream well but anything with Intel I3 or equivalent should work fine and it transcodes on the fly so you don't need to use Handbrake to convert all your videos.

I run playon on a dual core machine and all of the network streaming looks great. I have only run into a few local mkv files that have trouble streaming because it is only a dual core 1.6Ghz machine. I stream my local file over the network from a NAS.

I use this channel to play the Hulu channels that won't run to the Roku via Hulu Plus. I also use this to stream CBS shows and YouTube.

The other big plus is now my old ASUS O!Play media player not only streams all of my local media it is now a internet TV box too. I can stream Hulu, CBS, Youtube and most every other channel through the ASUS because it sees the Playon server as a DLNA server.

Excellent product. Recommend any roku owner to do some serious playing studying. You will find it brings the Romulus to a whole new level. I owned my lifetime license before my Romulus but it was the reason I bought roku. Can't imagine roku without it. At least do the 14 day trial and add some custom script and plugins. Prepare to be blown away.

I haven't run across a file that wouldn't play in months and I highly recommend playon.

Unless you have a good computer that you run it through forget it...Everything is choppy and the programs continually restart. It is exceptionally frustrating.

If you have a higher speed computer....it may be ok.

One of the things that PlayOn gives you is the ability to watch HuluPlus shows that are not avalible on the Roku. This is because you are using a browser on your computer to access the content. I'm using a Wii to watch that content now and it is not nearly as good as the streaming service on the Roku.

PlayOn is well worth the price. There are hundreds of "scripts" you can add for free. Many, many live channels...I got the $79 lifetime license a year ago and have never regretted it. I now develop scripts for playonscripts.com...I absolutely recommend. And no I do NOT get payed by PlayOn. I just think it's a great thing. One other thing to consider is you can add as many scripts as you want to unlike with Roku, where you are very limited to how many you can add at one time. Playon bypasses that.
