What is a Roku Private Channel?
Roku private channels look and feel similar to channels found in the Channel Store, they are in fact, very different. Roku does not review or approve private channels. Private channels are distributed independently by the developer. As long as they are in accordance with the terms of the Roku Channel Developer Agreement, Roku does not restrict the distribution of private channels.
Why would a developer choose to release a channel as a private channel instead of submitting it to the Roku Channel Store?
A few reasons:
- The channel isn’t ready for the Roku Channel Store (ie. Beta). Developers use private channels to test their apps prior to submitting.
- Developers like the freedom to make changes immediately without having to re-submit for approval.
- A developer may decide to create a private channel if they want to reach a specific audience. We only list publicly available private channels from various social media outlets. We do not guess or post codes against developer’s terms.
In the unlikely event of a security issue, StreamFREE.TV will immediately remove any questionable listing and report the listing to Roku. We have a zero tolerance policy.
