Live Channels

Looking for channels that stream live?

We have done the “digging” for you

You will NOT find FREE “live” 24/7 streaming network & cable channels (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, ESPN) for the Roku. If you do,  they are NOT legal.  Many of the FREE live streaming channels that can be found are international news channels – FOXnews, Al Jazeera, BBC, CNN International and RT news.

DISHWorld offered Roku enough cash to lock out third party International and foreign language channels… public, private, free, or paid. – source: zaznotfunny.com .  Many, not all, of the original FREE international private channels have been removed.

Options/Alternatives for Roku LIVE TV streaming:

AeroTV available in select areas with 22 new cities in 2013.

Sporting events – Roku offers many “official” subscription packages (MLB, NHL, UFC)

Over-the-Air antenna for free local networks – ABC,CBS,NBC,FOX,CW, and more

the Nowheretv private channel has several Live TV streams in one channel

Private Channels – BBC, CNN interational, Justin.tv, Ustream

PlayOn.tv and PLEX plugins are available for additional “live” content.

  •  Live streams in the Nowheretv channel  can be found in the international category.
  • An Over-the-Air antenna is highly recommended in addition to the Roku if you have “cut cable”.

Roku Private Channel

What is a Roku Private Channel?

Roku private channels look and feel similar to channels found in the Channel Store, they are in fact, very different.

Roku does not review or approve private channels. So why would a developer choose to release a channel as a private channel instead of submitting it to the Roku Channel Store? A few reasons:

  • The channel isn’t ready for the Roku Channel Store. Developers use private channels to test their apps during the development process.
  • The channel contains content not appropriate for the Roku Channel Store. An adult-oriented channel is a good example of a channel that Roku would not publish publicly.
  • The channel contains content that is confidential or intended for members or employees in a specific group or company.

Are there any security risks installing a Private Channel?

As these private channels are not “vetted” by Roku, there is a remote possibility of malicious code.  Even though a private channel is not evaluated by Roku, Roku does have control over the code.  Any reported issues, the Private channel code would be immediately disabled by Roku.

In the unlikely event of a security issue, StreamFREE.TV will immediately remove any questionable listing and report the listing to Roku.  So far, no issues have been reported.
