Question: What brand of an antenna is the best?
100’s of antenna designs. Indoor/Outdoor, Yagi, Flat. What matters most is location, location, location.
“Mohu, Antennas Direct, and Winegard are the big players, but you could be 10 miles away from the towers, have the best antenna that money could buy, and still not get good reception. Position, terrain, obstacles (like buildings), and even the construction materials of your home can greatly affect the quality of your reception.”
If possible, mount outdoors. With an attic/indoor installation, the effective range of most antennas is lowered by 30% to 50% (10-15 miles).
“There is little correlation between price and performance; often the cheaper antennas did as well as, or better than, the more expensive models.” Our cheap $1 DIY antenna performed just as good as the $50+ popular flats.
What’s inside a flat HDTV antenna? No alien technology. No rare earth metals. Just some cheap aluminum traces at calculated lengths for frequency reception.
